Giving history a new lease of life

Castle in Westphalia

A breath of fresh air for ancient ideas

Castle in Westphalia

A room in a Westphalian castle that has not been used for decades is to be restored to its former glories. This 85 square meter room is really set apart by its restored and historically protected array of murals and Grisailles paintings from the 19th Century.

The exciting and challenging restoration task involves blending a number of the existing antiques with new furniture as well as new curtains and window ornaments. HiFi equipment is also to be integrated into the space but should be concealed so it doesn’t detract from the room’s atmosphere.

We opted for a balanced and sensitive color scheme and material selection when designing the room: Golden curtains complement the original side table and integrated mirrors. We have selected two sofas and a chair for seating, which are placed together on a rug, deliberately chosen for its neutral appearance. A large round table and two oval commode tables complete the effect. We have also developed commode elements for the HiFi equipment that were positioned at the head of the room with the newly designed shelving unit.
